Samsung UN65F9000 65-Inch Deals

A quick reply to the reviewer Tyrone Stacey. Why would you buy a 540hp Mercedes E class sedan...because you can afford it and most of all because its fun to drive. So why lend a negative review of a television if you don't have it.

I had the pleasure of owning the Sony 65" 4K television until this Samsung came out. The Samsung blows the Sony away. Both of these television sets have amazing resolution and very impressive up scaling capability.Blue Ray, NetFlix and HD TV look noticeably better. I had the salesman demo a Batman Blu Ray to compare 1080P to 4K and the upscaling was obvious. This is very important if you are considering a 4K TV purchase.
Where the Sony and Samsung differ the most is in color reproduction. There always seemed to be a washed look on the Sony. The Samsung is brighter the blacks are about the same. The screen on the Samsung is more forgiving in bright rooms.
I did prefer the UI on the Sony but the Samsung is by no means lacking.

I casually viewed the 65" model with the Samsung City buildings 4K demo. The picture quality was a new experience, different than any other flat panel.
First there was an extremely high S/N ratio from the camera source but also in not seeing the LCD pixels changing state. The first impression is more enthusiastic than the Sony's 4K effort, due at least partially to the source material.

The level of detail breaks new ground as expected with 4K resolution. The Samsung image processing is very natural but you do see more detail than you would in real-life. It like having the eyes of an eagle. Hyper-detail? This image processing allows for viewing at a greater distance, which is the exact opposite of what experts recommend, based upon the 4K resolution smaller pixel size as compared to 2K/1080p panels.

Curiously the Samsung is still using active 3D glasses even with 4K resolution. The Sony 4K uses passive glasses and its 3D performance set a new standard according to Home Theater Magazine.

The display comes with a separate Evolution box which should allow for an upgrade to HDMI 2 when it becomes available. I'd figure about $400.

I have worked in consumer electronics for 20 years. I was an instructor at CES for several companies for 6+ years. I have toured the LED/LCD plants overseas where they make these (and other) displays. This display is nothing short of amazing. Keep in mind that this display is bleeding edge and needs to be treated as such. Make sure you give it a good source. I built a new HTPC just for this display and am happy that I did. Don't plug in a low resolution source and expect it to magically make extra video info/pixels. A bad source will only be that much more obvious with any true 4K TV. If I can offer any advice to a potential owner... don't listen to most of the negative reviews on this product and do your own homework. It is simply amazing!

Pros: Colors, Resolution, Sharpness, Widgets
Cons: Gloss(for bright rooms), $$..should be less

I recently just got this and to be honest this is a downgrade since I have an XBR in the bedroom (small 32 inch) but just perfect for my living room.
This tv is exceptionally excellent with a sleek look that makes your living room so modern :D I am impressed on how the internet and widget tools are easily installed. Pretty easy and with Sony it already has Sony apps to rent/buy movies and it is also easy to setup for the ps3.
The picture quality is amazing. Obviously the XBR is much better but to be honest I can hardly tell that much difference.

The only drawback is the gloss and shadow if you have a bright room. Luckily my LR is pretty dark so its perfect with no flaw. If you like sports this tv is insane.

If you have a surround system it must be 5.1+ because it wont take white/red conponents for your basic speakers, needs to be optical if not you can always put it in headphones....

This has 4 hdmis and really light to lift.

If you can afford the price (should be 1200 imo) its an excellent sony tv that has more equal power than other competitors (LGs HD Cinema-Panasonic-Samsung-Sharp Quattro).

Was going for a HX929 but the price increase pushed it out of budget and I settled for HX750.
This is a decent TV and I found cnet review mostly right. Colours are too good. Watching NGC and Discovery HD is really a treat. Blacks are really black like an other reviewer noted and its incredibly good. Downside is lost shadow detail. Shadow detail is not less, it simply is gone. Dark areas of picture appear totally black with nothing in detail or texture whatsoever. Motion judder is noticeable in standard and smooth modes (which are the ones recommended for regular use). I had compared this one side-by-side with HX 9 series and the latter humbled this at contrast and depth. HX 929 is still probably the best bet. But I felt the difference in picture doesn't justify the huge premium for 9 series.

Overall, it might be a good TV, but overpriced for what it gives.

**Update**
I now painfully learn that what sony says in specs *youtube*, etc widgets have a fine print. That not the same youtube you would find in your browser. Its a server of videos from youtube, converted and reuploaded so that the TVs can play it. The regular browser cannot play even a single video on any website. Sony's explanation is that flash is not supported. This implies you cannot watch youtube live videos. Alas!
Its now been 50 days of usage and the unit is running absolutely fine.

I bought this from Amazon around Thanksgiving when I wasn't expecting to have to buy a new tv. My previous 40" Sony Z series screen just died unexpectedly and the repairman said it would be $1594.00 to put a new one in. So I researched the sources to get this one which was the same quality level as the Z series and saved $500.00 over the repair cost! Its also 6" bigger diagonally. The picture quality is beautiful and I really can't tell the difference between this one and the 55" HX 850 I bought earlier this summer. Fits nicely in the spot of the old 40 ". Everywhere I went to ask opinions of salespeople about Sony vs. Samsung everyone said they would by Sony with their own money. I might add that this was the first time I've bought an item like a TV on Amazon but it was easy and very quick ( 2days even though I didn't pay for 2 day ship). I wouldn't hesitate to do it with them again.Sound on this model is actually better than my HX 850.Bigger, somewhat front facing speakers at the bottom of the tv. Think this is the best bang for your Sony buck.

This is a superb TV with lots of connection options. It is also 3D.

About the 3D. I did not buy this TV for the 3D capability. I think it is a gimmick. After viewing some 3D content off the Samsung app, I still think it is a gimmick. Sure, it is fun to watch for a little bit. But the 3D experience on a TV is not like at IMAX. There are too many other things in the room that distract you from the picture.

However, you should still buy this TV. It costs about $100 more than the 6300 (or 6350) but is well worth it? Why? Because for that money you get "micro-dimming". This feature is worth it! The blacks are really black and the picture works well even in a brightly lit room (and my room has lots of windows). Also, the micro-dimming removes glare. Here is how that works. When the TV is off, there is a lot of glare on my screen. Turn on the TV and the glare disappears. Amazing.

You can read other reviews for the optimum settings. I am connected to a Yamaha receiver using a single HDMI cable on the ARC (Audio Return Channel) and I get great 5.1 surround sound.

What if you pay more? You gain little (some more 3D glasses) by going up one step to the 7100 (7050). Go up to the 7500 and you get better micro-dimming. The 8000 gives you even better micro-dimming. The 9000 is a 4K TV. In my mind none are worth the substantial cost increase for the features that are added.

In summary, for me this TV is the best value in the Samsung line. A superb picture and plenty of features for a very reasonable price.

Finally decided to upgrade from a 4 year old Samsung LCD 6 Series and thought this would be the perfect replacement. Picture quality is crisp and I've yet to throw something at it that it couldn't handle with a 120hz refresh rate although 240hz seems to be the new hype I have trouble really seeing a difference which makes it hard to justify the premium price for it, although this TV is a little on the pricey side it's great for what you pay. Can't judge 3D capability entirely but gave it a whirl using a PlayStation 3 and I must see for at home 3D it's pretty impressive. The TV has an abundance of apps ranging from Facebook to Amazon on demand with more being added as they go. For its size the TV feels incredibly light and is sleek and very thin. The functionality of the remote is a great idea, touch pad, voice recognition, I figured the voice recognition would have been shoddy but it seems to usually get things correct.I was on the fence about this TV but I'm really glad I took the chance, I couldn't be happier with it!

***Update*** 04/24/13

Although I got the TV for its 2D capability I've gotten a chance to thoroughly view some 3D content and I'm pretty amazed with the 3D quality of this TV. It's no movie theater experience but for something that sits in your home it is very impressive. I would like to also note that trying some other 3D glasses in stores from other manufacturers such as LG and Panasonic the 2 included Samsung 3D glasses seem to be the most comfortable, granted extended period of use may hurt your eyes, they are very lightweight so it's not as bothersome.

This tv is hands down in my opinion the best you can buy in a 40 inch model for 2013. I bought the un40f6300 for my bedroom and the un40f6400 for my living room. Both are great tv's however out of curiosity i put them side by side just to compare the difference in picture and the 6400 3d model definately had deeper blacks and a better contrast in colors making for a overall better looking picture. This was done with both tv's on the same settings and both using the same feed wich is dish network and hd receivers. The 3d on the 6400 is amazing ! I own a panasonic 55st30 with active 3d and in my opinion the 3d on this samsung looks even better. I compared the 3d quality watching avatar 3d. There is nothing about the new samsung i dont love and i had to give it a 5 star rating. It has the coolest remote i've seen also and all the tv feautures work terrific. I can even use my wireless keyboard to navigate the web rather then the remote if i want and it works great. Seriously if you are interested in this television but not sure if its the one, i can assure you i am very particular and i looked at every 40 inch led there is and this one had the best picture of any 40 inch led on the market today. Hope i was of help for those that are trying to make a decision..

For general home use, as we do in the kitchen, this TV provides a decent-enough picture and adequate sound for the casual or passive viewing and listening experience that it is being used for. It is very economical to operate considering its 12-volt DC power supply. It is very compact for use on the kitchen counter and below cabinets. However, the only negative is that with the need to use the power adapter, plus make cable connections from the source to a digital box and then to the TV, there's a lot of cables and wiring to try and conceal when sitting on a relatively-open kitchen cabinet. A more simplified or condensed power supply with less cords/wires would be more appealing.

When the ancient CRT based TV in our guest room expired I was looking for a good replacement.

I checked locally and no one had a good name brand smaller LED / LCD TV. There were a few off brand models, or I could order one at a local store.

This TV was at a really good price point for a Samsung. Not much more to say. Worked great out of the box. Setup was very easy.

Picture quality is excellent. Sound quality is good enough for its intended purpose. Can't say about the HDMI inputs as we don't need those at this time.

I would recommend this TV if you need a smaller format model.

Simply put, Samsung has supplied the wrong size screws to attach the stand. No matter how much you tighten them, there remains a gap between each screw head and the stand, causing unsafe, hazardous and frustrating wobbling of the TV all over the place. The SIMPLE SOLUTION is to just insert a single metal washer onto each screw before inserting it into the underside of the base. There will then be a firm and stable connection between the TV and its dedicated stand. Samsung needs to own up to its error in supplying screws that are too long, and provide all purchasers with either three metal washers or the correct size (i.e., shorter) screws. Also, because the screw holes are set so far into the bottom of the stand, it is advisable to use a magnetic screw driver to assist in getting the screws inside the holes.

Let me start by saying I'm a former employee of Samsung. I know they make incredible electronics, I've seen the glowing customer reviews on samsung.com, I've owned quite a few of their products and loved them, but this TV is not meeting expectations. I'm also a web marketer by trade and have a background in internet tech support. I'm tech savvy and I know what I'm doing.

First, the good parts. The picture is great. Set up is easy. The menus are so much easier to understand than other TVs I've wrangled with. External media via USB works well. I bought a Samsung DVD player too and they pair with the same remote which is a nice bonus. All that is great. I have two major complaints.

1- Sound. I have a set of computer speakers that I plugged into the mini jack audio out of the TV. You cannot control the external speakers with the TV remote by this method. Since my computer speakers do not have a remote it means I have to get up and walk across the room to turn the volume down or just use the TV speakers which are pretty worthless due to the nature of every flat screen TV - they must have the speakers in the back by design. I contacted Samsung support and they confirmed that the mini jack audio out is a fixed volume and cannot be altered with the remote.

2- Wifi. Maybe I have a dud, but as a wireless device this TV is pointless. I don't have cable TV. I don't watch broadcast TV. I use Netflix, Hulu and Amazon almost exclusively for video entertainment. This means a solid connection to the internet is a must. The TV has major issues with my wifi. I have troubleshooted this issue in every way I know how: network settings, rebooting cable modem and router several times, starting the devices in order from modem to wifi router to TV. I even added 50 ft. of ethernet cable to get the wireless router to just 4 feet away from the TV itself. I then tested the download speed using speedtest.net on the TV's web browser. My laptop, also 4 feet away from the wifi router, measures 14 mbps download speeds. The TV at the same time registers 300 kbps - about 1/40th the speed. As a result none of the streaming video apps work reliably. I wind up going back to watching on my laptop like a student in a college dorm. This defeats the entire purpose of why I bought this TV in the first place. Samsung support suggested I turn off all other competing wifi devices in my home so there's no competition for the signal. Well, ignoring that this is not a viable solution for web device addict like myself (2 laptops, a tablet and two wifi enabled smartphones) this didn't work.

UPDATE: I bought a $30 wifi range extender that has a ethernet port out. I connected that to the TV with a hard cable into the LAN port of the TV to bypass the wifi antenna and this has improved things greatly.

This is not my first high definition set, but it is my first smart TV--40 inches makes it the largest I've owned--and I am duley impressed so far. What drew me to this set was the very thin frame or bezel around the screen which obviously gives a larger picture in a smaller space.

The technical specs and capabilities are well described on the product page, so I won't repeat them here. I want to give you an idea of my experience with the set, the things I was surprised by, and what you may not otherwise find out.

The set-up was the easiest experience I've had so far with the TV guiding me through the process before I even had to find the Menu or Guide buttons on the remote. The ports are plenty and well marked leaving a minimal wire profile and a clean look.

The remote control is pretty well marked and easy to follow, though not as tactile to use in the dark as the Dish Network control. The Samsung's remote, however, is backlit so it doesn't need to be particularly tactile.

I very much like the fact that the base is not a large, flat, glossy black surface as most sets have been in the last few years, showing the first specks of dust and never staying clean for very long. This stand is four curved grey legs that are elegant and practical from a cleaning point of view.

The sound quality is especially good with broad range and deep, unmuttled lows. Every manufacturer claims good fidelity, but this set actually provides it. My dog reacts to the slightest animal sounds as if they were right in the room.

There were only pros in my experience and no cons (if that changes I will update this post) and I highly recommend this TV.

Great TV!

I mainly used it for netflix/hulu/amazon/youtube streaming and it works great. It reads my portable hard drive quite well too. The picture quality is great and the apps work awesome so far. I tried the web browser with the remote and it was painful, I would definitely invest in a keyboard (perhaps the logitech k400r - usb) if I was going to browse the web with it.

Sound: won't blow your socks off, but super solid 4/5
Picture Quality: very sharp, a little bit bright. 4.5/5
Smart Features: pretty much everything from skype to hard drives to wireless network setup. 5/5
Aesthetic Look: Very Pretty, slim bezel 5/5

If I had to buy another TV tomorrow, I would easily choose this one again. It is a well though out tv. It has everything you want from a smart hub (web, youtube, streaming, skype, keyboard, usb hard drive, wireless network) and the integration is great.

p.s. this is for the 40" 5500 model.

*****Update******
If you want to use skype, you have to use on of Samsung's cameras which will add another $80-130. For the web browser, it can't download anything or install any plugins.

I love the tv for the netflix, hulu, and amazon apps. So I'm sticking with the 5 star rating. If you are really looking for skype and lots of web browsing, I would down it to 4 stars.

Hope this helps!

As many others have pointed out, this set has great picture quality. However, you will really have to work at it. Out of the box the picture looked awful and I was ready to return this set. Then I was lucky enough to find a review by "Gordon" for the Samsung UN32EH5000. I used the exact settings he specified and now the picture looks great. His settings are:

Mode: Dynamic
Backlight: 18
Contrast: 85
Brightness: 50
Sharpness: 80
Color: 70
TInt: G/R 50/50
Standard color tone with screen fit in the additional options, with HDMI black level set to low.

I just finished the latest software update and Amazon Video on Demand has finally been added!

The picture on this TV is great. Even non HD content looks nice, and HD content is outstanding. I give it three stars because, as of November 2012, the software requires some significant effort to get working completely, and that may not be for everyone.

I bought this model not only for the great picture, but for its ability to connect to services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. They work well, though they are bit slow to launch. Finding content using the remote that comes with this TV is a bit tedious. I recommend using a computer to find what you want to watch on those services, and adding it to your queue. Then you can launch the app on the TV, bring up your queue, and start watching more easily.

The only snag for me in setting up the TV was getting the latest version of the Samsung software. After connecting to internet (which was easy), the TV updated all the software, which took about 15 minutes. Unfortunately, all the required updates were not available to the TV through its online update mechanism, and that caused the Amazon Prime Video software to fail to run. It complained that the Samsung Smart Hub software needed to be updated, but the Smart Hub software reported that there were no updates to be found.

Fortunately, a call to Amazon cleared up the problem. They informed me that Samsung had an update on their website that I could download, load on a USB thumb drive, and install on the TV. Doing that solved the problem. If you have this problem, you can get the latest version of the Samsung firmware from their support pages (sorry, Amazon doesn't allow links to external websites in reviews). Instructions on installing the update from a USB thumb drive are also available there.

So bottom line, the TV is great. The software is fiddly, and requires some hubbub to get updated properly. If you are willing to work through that, however, the experience of using the TV is very good.

SAMSUNG DOESN'T SEEM TO KNOW THIS, BUT YOU CAN OPERATE THIS TV WITH A KEYBOARD. PURCHASE A LOGITECH K-400 KEYBOARD, PLUG THE LITTLE USB ANTENNA INTO THE USB PORT, AND, IN SETTINGS, IDENTIFY THE KEYBOARD. IT WORKS PERFECTLY. THE KEYBOARD HAS A TRACKPAD THAT MOVES THE CURSER.
PLAY WITH THIS AND YOU WILL FIND USING THE INTERNET ON YOUR TV A JOY.

Just a quick note on how to fix the annoying issue of the TV going blank while gaming or trying to watch a movie; It seems that Sony is having a little fun with us with their eco settings and the TV seemingly interprets the change of source like a game or movie as an incorrect single and you will end up with a blank screen resulting in having to turn the TV off and back on again which is highly cumbersome;

The simple solution is as follows:

Click "Home" Button on the remote

Scroll down and select Settings

Scroll down and select Eco

Turn all Settings in the Eco menu to Off

Problem solved and you should have no issues with the blank screen going forward; Hope this helps and that you enjoy the TV as much as I do!

After my BRAND SPANKING NEW Samsung UN60ES8000 failed on me (see my review on that set if you're interested), I decided to try out this model. Oh dear lord is this an awesome tv. It's not going to win any awards for the best form factor since sliced bread, but the sheer screen size and beautiful picture is something you must see for yourself. I purchased the 70" model of this tv and couldn't be happier. It's a bit heavy at 60 or 65 lbs or so, but it's wall mounted to my articulating mount safely and securely. I still need to calibrate many of the settings, but for the average Joe, the three standard settings are plenty good.

In case some of you are gamers with Xbox 360s, be aware that you may have an "OH NO!" moment when the tv blacks out after your 360 starts a game/movie, but this is due to the tv's auto picture control not communicating with the system. I simply turned this automatic feature off and voila...no problems. (I somehow suspect Sony did this purposely, lol)

Oh yeah, and the 3D is cool I guess, but not really a fan of that stuff. The fact that this is passive 3D makes me happier than my previous tv with battery-powered glasses, but the fact of the matter is I won't truly adopt 3D until there are holograms in my living room and I don't need to wear glasses.

Anyway, back to topic...purchase this tv...at any size...with confidence.

Let me start with PROS
Ultimate configuration with awesome 3D experience, super clarity and sound quality. Would buy it again when below issues are resolved.

CONS:

Hell lot of software Issues:

1) All of a sudden Netflix froze and it doesn't respond to any remote control button. I have to power it off and when I power it on with wifi and/or wired connection I see multiple issues as below
2) After the above step if i power on my TV it starts with a Green horizontal line on the top edge of the TV
3) When ever this happens it loses all my Network settings and it doesn't connect the Smart HUB (Netflix/YouTube). It doesn't even detect my WIFI or a wired LAN connection.
4) Whenever YouTube gets stuck/freezes TV doesn't respond to remote control and on restarting the TV wired or wifi connection gets disconnected and doesn't detect wifi or wired LAN connection.
5) At times when I watch YouTube TV restarts all of a sudden.
6) When ever I restart YouTube if I forward the earlier video I was watching the amount of forwarding/image doesn't match with the time it is buffered for. Ex: Fast forwarding the video for 30 mins approximately shows 1 hour 30 mins on the seek bar of YouTube.
7) Netflix doesn't connect thru wifi initially so I have to connect through LAN cable
8) 3d doesn't work with Netflix

TV Model No: UN46ES6500FXZA
Version No: TS01
Serial No: Z4XXXXXXXXX179M

Below are the Transaction numbers for the calls made to Samsung support to resolve. But nothing helps.

1) Samsung Transaction No: 2xxxxxxx40 -- Was to reset to factory settings only to see the issues again.
2) Samsung Transaction No: 2xxxxxxx60
3) Samsung Remote Diagnosis Chat Session ID: LTK56xxxxxxxx4X
4) Samsung Transaction No: 2xxxxxxx07- Level-1/Tier-1 couldn't help this time. They escalated to Level-2/Tier2 Support & i was put on brief hold every time and I was finally heard from Samsung that the crash & restart are firmware issues are being fixed in an firmware update across E models which is being fixed. Do you want to wait for a fix and live with the issues till you get a firmware update? I wouldn't do that when I am spending so much on a TV.

This TV has an excellent picture, period. If your main criteria for a TV is the picture then I don't think you can go wrong with this TV.

Now some background...
Out of the box, news shows were unwatchable while movies and most other programming were great. Just about every news show was overly bright and faces so much so it was unwatchable as far as I was concerned. But two simple adjustments fixed it.

Using the Natural setting I dialed back Brightness from 45 to 35 and Color from 52 to 40. Now there are a zillion other controls and the picture can be tweaked endlessly. But those two probably made 90% of the diference with 10% of the effort. You will want to adjust the settings to your preference but Color and Brightness is definitely the place to start.

Pros:
- Great picture
- Great use of the overall dimension. The overall size is a bit smaller than our previos 40 inch Samsung. But the outer bezel is so narow that the it's mostly screen. So we have a 46 inch TV in a 40 inch space as far as I'm concerned.
-Desent sound. The speakers are on the back and reflect against the rear wall giving a pretty full sound. But for full sound we use our external surround system.
- Easy setup
- Stylish look.

Cons:
- I would have liked RCA audio outputs. But there are none.
- Universal remote operation with DIsh Network is lame. Missing is single button access to the Guide.

I received the 46" 3D HD TV today. I set it up and had it running in 45 minutes. It replaced my older Samsung TV which was still in good condition. Contrary to what I have heard, this TV has a great sound. I may not hook up my Speaker Bar. Contrary to what I'v read, the picture is excellent. I have two gripes: The literature does not say which Key Boards (Brand / model) work with the TV other than Samsung --that sells for around a hundred bucks. Issue Two: The attachment of the stand to the TV is 100% junk. I mean garbage, tin foil, refuse designed by a madman. To attach it one must lay the TV on its face and attach the stand with four screws. If the four TANGS do not all engage properly, the TV leans so badly it might fall over. It's a good TV BUT BEST BUY has dropped it this week. A 47" model apparently replaced it. ALSO Samsung NOW sells this online for $969.99 as of this week with FREE shipping.

Got the 60 inch UN60F6300 delivered yesterday. So far we are very happy with this tv. Nice picture. Smart features working well. Was easy to set up remote to work Directv box and Samsung sound bar(has the HDMI ARC so bar actually works via HDMI). Would recommend tv. Will update if any problems arise.

Update: 4/24/2013: Streaming works fine on my tv. I streamed a movie off of Amazon Instant video. No lag at all. I have had no problems streaming Pandora or You tube. Everything streams fine. No complaints.

I'm using this as a computer monitor, not so much as a TV, but I do watch a lot of Blu-Rays and TV shows on Netflix.

I just upgraded to a larger living room, and my old Samsung 46" CCFL-backlit LCD did not cut it. I couldn't even read the text on the screen when browsing the web. So I drew up some diagrams, did some trigonometry, and decided that I needed at least a 60 or 65" TV. Being out of the TV market for several years, I didn't keep up with all the new features and marketing lingo, so I visited a few big box stores to get information on what all of this new "Smart" features, CMR, micro-dimming, etc. Turns out CMR is just a combined rating of processor speed, micro-dimming, dynamic contrast, and other various stuff. Apparently micro-dimming on Samsungs is all software. Why? Because these babies are all edge-lit. They don't have "real" local dimming, only "fake" local dimming. That guy working at best buy telling me he could tell the difference between the non-fake microdimming and fake microdimming screen? Ridiculous. All that fancier faster processor does to get you the higher CMRs is make the fake microdimming and automotion plus feature work better. I'm the type of guy who turns this stuff off completely.

The 6300 doesn't come with the smart remote, which is a bummer because I rather liked that feature. But I wasn't going to pay 400 extra to get the next model up just to have the remote. In fact, I like the 6300 model more than the 6400, 7100, 7500, or 8000 because of the matte screen. I have a window right behind me, and from various angles other windows coming from the sides, so not having nasty reflections on black screens (or anything that happens to be black on the screen) is a big deal to me. I just don't like seeing my own face in the middle of a movie.

The menus are very slow, and you have to point the remote directly at the TV, or it will not register your button pressing.

From consumer reports, I'm told that these LED-backlit models don't have great viewing angle. I disagree. There seems to be very little distortion at 45 degrees away from center.

I don't like my color settings to be vivid, natural, dark, bright, contrasty, dim, or anything other than "accurate." So, I googled some calibration settings to 6500K, and after going through that process the picture was... pretty darn good. In case anyone was interested, they are posted below. "Movie mode" apparently changes the color temperature model / white balance mode to 6500K, and from there you can adjust the other settings.

Compared to the high end Panasonic Viera plasmas, this LED-backlit model seems much brighter. Compared to the Sonys, it seemed to have fewer artifacts. Compared to the LGs, it didn't have as much reflection. Or maybe I'm just biased.

Oh, also apparently this 65" model only uses about 82 watts. I haven't verified this with my meter yet, but my old 46" used about 150 watts. Wow...

This 60" TV replaced a 8 year old 42" plasma. This was my first LED/LCD TV after two Panasonic plasmas. Some early impressions:
1. Picture is as good as I hoped. Even colors and lighting. Inky blacks. No complaints here. I have not fine-tuned the colors, and am generally running in "movie" mode. I think my recently purchased Panasonic plasma has more realistic color (e.g. looking at green grass) but I may need to play with the adjustments.
2. The set itself looks great. Thin bezel, unobtrusive logo (I hate big, glowing logos!) Nice, swivel stand that was very easy to assemble.
3. Remote is nothing spectacular. It does configure itself to control your cable box, and it worked with the somewhat obscure Arris box that my provider uses. However, it still can't completely replace the dedicated cable remote, nor is it as configurable as something like a Harmony remote.
4. The SmartTV functions are improving, but they're certainly not the reason to buy this TV. It is kind of nice to have a built-in Amazon and Netflix apps, but honestly, I still prefer a $99 Apple TV over the Samsung capabilities. The TV's web browser app is actually usable in a pinch. (I used it to find the Samsung codes to program my cable remote...)
5. There's a SmartTV function to suggest/preview upcoming TV shows (you tell the TV your cable provider during setup and it fetches schedule information, etc over the internet.) The TV then changes the channel on your cable box for you using an IR blaster which is included with the TV. Irritatingly, it tunes the SD channel rather than the HD channel for my cable provider.
6. The sound is much better than I expected. I figured with small, down-firing speakers I'd need to buy a sound bar right away. I probably still will, but for now, the sound isn't awful.

So, I'd buy this one again, but if "apps" are important to you, I'd probably consider a cheaper model and get a PS3 or an AppleTV.

Samsung never fails. The previous model had outstanding picture quality and I didn't know how they can further improve it. First let's look at the dimensions, the previous model (UN55ES7500) is 48.8-Inch x 28.7-Inch x 1.2-Inch this one is 48.4 X 27.6 X 1.4 Inches without the stand. Surprisingly Samsung didn't make the TV slimmer actually it added 0.2 inches in thickness but it decreased the frame size to compensate for it. The TV was securely packed in a large box and it seemed to be very well protected so don't worry about buying this TV online. I tested this TV by watching a blu-ray disc, a dvd and playing Black Ops II on it. The blu-ray movie I watched was 300. I've watched this movie at least 15 times before but watching it on this TV was a different experience. I was looking for any flaw in the TV but couldn't find one, the colors were so rich and bright and shades were clearly distinguishable. This TV combined with a blu ray movie is enough to make people working for movie theaters go out of business, it is this good. The second movie I watched was dvd quality, I did this because blu ray looks good on any tv so I had to be sure. The movie I watched was Monster Inc and mike have never looked greener, the picture quality was good and the colors were vibrant. The last thing I tried on this tv was playing Call of Duty with my younger brother, this would allow me to test the sound of the TV. We played multiplayer split screen which means that the screen is divided into an upper part and a lower part, usually this interferes with the gaming experience but the tv's screen was large enough for us not to notice it. The sound of the tv was really good but it needed a subwoofer for additional bass, I would recommend a Polk Audio subwoofer if you want your system to be complete. The stand looked nice and I am very pleased with this purchase. My dog never watched TV on my old 32 vizio but now he declared the middle spot on the sofa and seem to be enjoying this TV as much as I do. Feel free to ask if you have any questions :)

I upgraded to the UN60F7500 from a six-year-old Sharp 46" LCD. So you can imagine how much better (and bigger) the picture looks. Yes, it's great though I am not sure how much of it is due to my eyes adjusting to a much bigger screen and how much of it is just the progress of the technology.

Still, there are somethings I take issue with.

1). Out of the box the motion compensation and color balance tend to make things look extraordinarily artificial -- but in a an attractive way. That is, if you don't mind your TV looking like it's not real, you're all set with the defaults. I set the TV to some recommendations I found in the UN60F7500 forum on avsforum.com and things look much better to me.
2). Even after an upgrade, the TV occasionally crashes and reboots. That's a change for me from the Sharp which was just an appliance. The firmware is buggy. For example, when set to power on and power off my FiOS STB, it will only power it on.
3). The remote is, in a word, awful. It has Bluetooth lag. It doesn't allow basic channel jumping without a complex sequence of strokes. It requires too many different presses to do simple things. The sensor strips at the top and sides are both too sensitive and not sensitive enough. Give me back my 2007 Sharp button-filled remote!
4). I miss a printed, complete user manual. The online "E-manual" is insufficient. Feature details are missing and illogically explained. Samsung documentation ranges from stilted US English to incomprehensible.
5). If your viewing position is below about the midpoint of the screen, you can forget using the camera. It pops up to be flush with the top bezel. It's not possible to tilt it down.

We did our homework and chose this Samsung 7500 to replace our 8 year old 42 inch plasma. Amazingly this 55 inch screen is the same size as our 42 inch plasma with 6 inch borders. Easy to set up and get going. As I said the picture is magnificent. Took my wife and I a while to agree on which picture setting - dynamic, standard, natural or movie.
We compromised movie for movies and natural for all else. Easy to switch using Samsung remote.

At first we IR'd the Samsung remote with our cable box but did not like how it complicated things when you just want to turn on the TV, so removed it and now we use cable box remote for TV viewing and samsung remote for everything else.

I like the clear voice setting for sound as it seems to subdue the background noise so you can follow dialogue - another great feature of this TV

The switch to web and use of the web browser was so easy, I easily attached an old wireless keyboard to a usb port on TV.
